Windows: compute md5sum Or sha1sum

The official Windows tool can be downloaded from here:

Extract the file fciv.exe to C:\windows so it is in your search path.

Compute a md5sum (default)

Compute a sha1sum

fciv -add -sha1

Write the hash into a file

fciv -add -sha1 > download.sha

Sadly verification of hases for our purpose isn't possible the way you would expect, because Microsoft messed up the tool. You can only store hases in a stupid xml file and verify against that “xml-database”.

Annoying Workaround:
use an editor or a diff-capable tool to verify hases. I use Notepad++ ( with the Compare Plugin for that.
