Robocopy

Robocopy: “Robust File Copy”, is a command-line directory and/or file replication command.

Robocopy comes with Windows Vista. If you're still using Windows XP you can download the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools from Mircrosoft which contains robocopy besides other tools.

Robocopy is much more powerful than xcopy - try it out if you don't know it yet.
For a quick overview see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robocopy

If you prefer a GUI, then have a look at RoboMirror.

Over the years I hacked some scripts with robocopy. Find some of them below:

Examples

:: ############################################
:: (very) simple backup script
:: ############################################
@ECHO OFF
cls
:: ############################################
:: TODAY = YYYY-MM-DD
:: transforms a date (30.11.2007) to 2007-11-30
SET TODAY=%date:~-4%-%date:~3,2%-%date:~0,2%

SET QUELLIP=192.168.9.1
SET QUELLLAUFWERK=X:
SET QUELLE_SW=X:\SW32
SET QUELLE_GLOBAL=X:\Daten\serv\DATA\GLOBAL
SET ZIELLAUFWERK=D:
SET ZIEL=D:\CLIENT_Backup
SET LOGFILE=backup.log
:: ############################################

if not exist %ZIEL% md %ZIEL%
%ZIELLAUFWERK%
cd %ZIEL%
net use %QUELLAUFWERK% /D /YES

:: ############################################
:: SW sichern
net use %QUELLAUFWERK% \\%QUELLIP%\c$ /USER:administrator
robocopy %QUELLE_SW%\ %ZIEL%\SW32 /E /M /COPY:DAT /LOG:%ZIEL%\%LOGFILE% /XF SWdatmp.db SWdatmp.log /NP
net use %QUELLAUFWERK% /D /YES
:: ############################################

pause

:: ############################################
:: Globale Daten sichern
net use %QUELLAUFWERK% \\%QUELLIP%\d$ /USER:administrator passwd
robocopy %QUELLE_GLOBAL%\ %ZIEL%\GLOBAL /E /M /COPY:DAT /LOG+:%ZIEL%\%LOGFILE% /NP
net use %QUELLAUFWERK% /D /YES
:: ############################################

cd %ZIELLAUFWERK%
move %ZIEL% %ZIEL%-%TODAY%

echo Done!
pause

Another example script:

:: ############################################
:: pictures backup script
:: ############################################
@ECHO OFF
cls
:: ############################################
:: TODAY = YYYY-MM-DD
:: transforms a date (30.11.2007) to 2007-11-30
::SET TODAY=%date:~-4%-%date:~3,2%-%date:~0,2%

SET QUELLE=c:\users\public\pictures
SET ZIEL=\\WOLF\bilder\Digitalbilder
SET LOGFILE=sync_bilder.log
SET IGNOREDIRS=iPod Photo Cache
SET IGNOREFILES=Thumbs.db
:: ############################################
:: /L for dry run

robocopy %QUELLE% %ZIEL% /L /MIR /LOG:%LOGFILE% /TEE /FFT /R:2 /W:1 /NP /XD "%IGNOREDIRS%" /XF %IGNOREFILES%

:: ############################################
