Virtualbox

Clone a virtual machine

To clone a machine clone the virtual hard drive:

cd e:\VM\HardDisks\
"C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage" clonehd xp-template.vdi xp-new.vdi

As soon as the virtual hard drive is cloned you can create a new virtual machine, choose the cloned hard drive when prompted.

Convert a VM from VMware to Virtualbox

Converting can be acomplished by cloning the vmdk image to a new output format:

D:\daten\vmware_clients\Xubuntu>"c:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage.exe" clonehd Xubuntu.vmdk Xubuntu.vdi --format vdi
0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...

Virtualbox guest tools

To be able to configure a bigger screen resolution with Ubuntu (X11) install virutualbox-guest-x11

This will bring the mouse wheel to live again as well :-)

Change timeout for boot menu

Changing the VirtualBox boot order can be a challenge because you won't have enough time to hit F12 in time. So what?

The console window is your friend:

"C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage" modifyvm Xubuntu --bioslogodisplaytime 8000

This will display the bios logo for 8 seconds when booting your “Xubuntu” VM

See http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch08.html#vboxmanage-modifyvm
