Mysql variables

Normally you would set (global) variables in your my.cnf config file.

To change such a variable on the fly you can do so in the mysql console:

Set tmp_table_size to 256M:

mysql> set @@global.tmp_table_size=268435456;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

Verify the current setting:

mysql> select @@global.tmp_table_size;
+-------------------------+
| @@global.tmp_table_size |
+-------------------------+
|               268435456 |
+-------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

:!: These modifications won't survive a restart of the mysql server! So don't forget to add the new setting to your my.cnf.
