Some notes regarding Clamav
Install Clamav the debian way
Add the volatile repository to /etc/apt/sources.list
echo "deb http://ftp2.de.debian.org/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
run apt-cache search clamav to find the appropriate packages to install
apt-get install clamav clamav-base clamav-daemon clamav-freshclam
Virus database update method: daemon
Test Clamav
Test your clamav installation with a test virus provided by eicar.
Get the files:
wget http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com wget http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com.txt wget http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar_com.zip wget http://www.eicar.org/download/eicarcom2.zip
run clamscan or clamdscan
you should see something like this:
[...] eicarcom2.zip: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND [...]
